Discord uses a lightweight markup language called Markdown. Learning how to properly format your messages can make your announcements stand out and keep your server looking professional.

Basic Text Formatting

Here are the essential text formatting shortcuts every Discord user should know:

• Bold: Wrap text in double asterisks (`**text**`).
• Italics: Wrap text in single asterisks or underscores (`*text*` or `_text_`).
• Strikethrough: Wrap text in double tildes (`~~text~~`).

Spoilers and Code Blocks

If you are discussing a new game or movie, you can hide the text behind a spoiler tag by wrapping it in double vertical bars (`||spoiler||`). Users have to click the black box to reveal the text.

For code blocks, wrap your text in three backticks (` ``` `). You can even add syntax highlighting by typing the language name right after the first set of backticks (e.g., ` ```python `).
